Recently, I requested information from a Cmaa official who handles that dept.and explained that even tho'I connected to the proper websites Yahoo would NOT give me access to that information so could they please do so.

In response the individual gave me the website to view. I am NOT an idiot !!

Aeronautical engineers ridiculed my theory of lift, I proved that I was right. Their response was "My God, you are right!!!
Unfortunately some engineer from NASA preceded me by a few months.
And I needed to be eplained as to which web sites I should go to.

88 YEARS AND A FEW MONTHS OF AGE !!!!

Hi there,

I'm still around but at a much slower tempo.Still skating, three times a week but find it a bit much. Last time out I did a really short session, heart labours.

Summer sports are still on my agenda but feel that will be cut back as well.
Part of that problem is too long a drive to meets. Wondering if the car can hold out also.

Just wanted to keep you informed.

Hi all,

Health now fine tho'not like before, but what do you want at 88.

Oh yes, Hall of Famer --- Three times inducted now, in fourteen months.
Clarington-Durham area, Throwers Club and last but not least Ontario Masters Athletics.
Never aspired to these heights, found sports a good way to get rid of excess energy,
compete, meet people with similar interests.

Thrower's Club Pres., Bill Pearson is now badgering me about when I turn 90 !!!I wish.

DOCTORS AGAIN !!!!!

I'm still around and raunchy. Damn the doctors !!!!
I have now quit both Plavix and Lipitor and feel human again. Doctor prescribed a weaker med than Lipitor, took it this past week but will stop for I feel out of sorts again !!!

For two years I complained to my doctor about my throat. at first he just nodded, later that it may be an allergy, just dismissed it thereafter. FINALLY he actually looked in my throat,the first time in two years!!! His conclusion "It is just fine, no lumps etc, inside or out. A few days later I knew it was bad, no use going back to him, cannot go to another doctor's office, BUT one can go to Urgent Care.
Doctor there took one look and said that I had swollen glands, an infection. After three weeks of antibiotics most symptoms are gone with one barely lingering. Was my doctor blind or stupid? This is not the first time he did not spot my problems even when I complained repeatedly. Like I said previously, I look too healthy and way to active to be sick !!! Athlete beware !!!

Symptoms:- no taste, no appetite, cracking voice, coughing up large lumps of phlem, crumbs etc.causing coughing, sneezing etc. and watery eyes.

Happy holidays, rest up for next year-----I won't be, skating will fill in for me.

Will be 88years of age in December !!! I hope

Oh yes, I was inducted in the Throwers Club Hall of Fame in September which makes it two,the other was in the Clarington H of F.

STILL AROUND !!!!!

Healthwise it's been marginal, feeling below par, from high to low !!!
Two weeks ago had surgery for prostate blockageing, feel lousy, Doc said it will take four to six weeks recovery time, so skating and throwing sports will have to wait.
Around April 25th I became a Great Great Grandfather and feel like it.
Will now hibernate for sometime !!!

STILL ALIVE DESPITE THE DOCTOR

To the uninformed, I have a history of doctor's inefficiency, please read my earlier posts.

NOW TODAY:-

After the stent implant about Oct. 2 2007, I progressed for awhile, then ailments from eyesight to BMs.About 3-4 months ago I came to the conclusion that my blood was too thin. Frequent spontaneous hematoma. A few months ago I decided, enough, and suggested to the doctor I was being overdosed. His response :- A former patient went off them and died within a month !!!!
Pains developed throughout my body, couldn't lean back in a chair without muscles screaming
etc. etc.

Two weeks ago I awoke with my right arm aching, my hand numb, one look showed a puffed hand and a bruise from inside wrist to just below elbow, emerg took a blood test and declared that my blood was too thin, I knew that months previously !!!! Had an appt. with family doctor a few days later, he checked my body as well and found a number of bruises, now add this to painful muscles an intermittent groin pain, weakend eyesight, ad infinitum. Blood test showed thin blood, again, no recommendations.. The following day the bruise was beyond my elbow and up to my index finger, tendons an muscles screaming.

Emerg. again. blood test, showed blood too thin, what else is new? They advised skipping the thinners for a week. Improvement within a few days, within a week my symptons were gone, with only a trace left. I have decided to skip the thinners for another ten days when I will be seeing my doctor again. I want a blood test to see if perhaps it is normal for my blood to be thin, if then, a reduced dose of thinners or none at all. Perhaps at my age of eighty seven my blood is thin.

YOICKS------INCREDIBLE !!!!!!

Today I received a comment on my post !!!! Think it is the first person who read my blog AND offered a comment. You made my day, week, month and year !~!!! and inspired me to write about my induction into the Clarington Sports Hall of Fame !!!! Once again I ask "Who ME"?

I never aspired to these heights, as I may have said previously, I did the throwing events because I enjoyed it and to release my excessive energy, to help me sleep better, later to enjoy the comradeship and competition. It is some time since I've had a worthy competitor, which has taken the joy out of winning, it is hard to beat one's own best efforts.I am most proud of the Bronze medal from Italy in the Javelin event as I expected nothing !
We were piped in, then dinner speeches and awards presented. Paul Henderson was our guest speaker and I had to follow him!!!!

At my table sat a former Lady Canadian Figure Skater Champion, a friend. Family and friends were there as well, what an evening. More than once I said "Who me?" More so, since I will be 87 years of age next month !

I had mentioned my heart attack previously but went right back to competeing this year, four gold and a silver at our annual awards luncheon on Oct.24. At our last meet in Sept. I mentioned to our club's president, Bill Pearson that I did not do so well this year, at the awards dinner as he was presenting me with my third gold medal he commented that I had said I had a bad year. Another gold and a silver medal followed.

Many warnings not to overdo it had no effect on me, my daughter too finally gave up. I'll be the death of me yet !!!

Oh yes !!! I am still found wanting in the Javelin event.

With great hesitation I went, primarily because I did not feel well, had a heart attack ten days after returning. Injured left foot a week before leaving, was leery about jet lag and I was SO RIGHT !!!. Couldn't use the stairs the first five days !!!!! First couple of events I threw like an amateur, fortunately the odd good one got in !!!!! Grandaughter Kim Sutton nearly had a heart attack, she thought I had only three throws and heard that if my cap or anything fell out of the circle it was a fault, I was the only one to wear a cap while throwing, I always do.

In case you haven't heard the results-- five gold and one bronze !!! WHO ME ?????
Very pleased with the bronze in Javelin for it is just not my event, I never threw badly once in the Javelin event while there.

Highlights:-

After a couple events a competitor, with accent, called me Champion.

After the Weight Petathlon; after the awards ceremony I went to the change room, upon leaving there, there were three youths with bikes who approached me, each shook hands with me, said one word they had just learned "Compliments".

Commentator for awards for Weight Pentathlon, called my name and then CANADIAN, 4689 points, World Champion and World Record Holder !!! I was most proud of hearing CANADIAN !!!!
In the rankings etc., I love seeing the Canadian Flag emblem after my name.

Swam in the Adriatic Sea a couple of times , enjoyed the scenery, Italian women !!!!

I felt really punk while there, and am proud I did what I did under the circumstances.

After returning, the OMTFA presented me with a special award at Stouffville.
As well, the OMTFA awarded me the Male Athlete of the Year Trophy at a York University Indoor Mini Meet. Following that, about five months after returning from Italy our local newspaper had an article about my exploits.

NEVER did I aspire to these heights !!! Feel as if I am hearing about some other person.

Healthwise:- Naturally I overdo it but am gradually seeing the error of my ways and TRYING to be more cautious. Started skating in Dec., rest when chest pains start, five minutes or so, then at it again. Of late NO chest pains, tire easily. Guess it will take time.

Doctor's are a life threat to athletes !!!!!

For a number of years I complained to my doctor about fatigue, lethargy, dizzyness etc.
Family doctor's response, "A man half your age would love to be in the shape you are in " !!!!!
Sept 28 2007, I suffered a heart attack. A simple treadmill test would have shown the problem.

1996:- I was showing all the symptoms of colon cancer. Family doctor did a feces test and declared that there was nothing wrong. Guess I looked too healthy and performing too well !!!
Six months later I was bleeding from the rectum !!!!! Had surgery and am still breathing, no
thanks to the family doctor !!!! A colonoscopy would have shown the problem. NOW I know.

1986:- Confined to bed because of a foot fracture and much swelling.
Noticed a lump, below my sternum, rising up and down, figured hernia and exposed blood vessel, no pain, so perhaps cancer, but cancer does'nt beat, so decided on aneuryism, had three.
Had surgery and am still breathing.

Despite doctor's chest tapping, stethescoping and visual exam, he noticed NOTHING !!!!!

PHYSICALLY:- Best shape in many years, thanks to the vitamins.
Doctor has instructed me to drink more water.

PERFORMANCE:- Changes in technique shows GREAT promise, we will see at next meet June 23.

VITAMINS

Doctor recommended B 12s year and a half ago, took them about two weeks and quit. Six months later saw the doc again, he read my recent blood test and exploded, asking if I took them, I explained---he turned the computer screen towards me and showed that my reading was 94, (for whatever) and previously was about 235. He renewed the prescription and beefed that it was up to me, take them or not. I was convinced and in a couple of weeks saw an energy renewal, further, in time, my aching feet, ankles and knees lost their aches, pains and swelling !!!!!!! Generally I felt better as well. The reading now was in the 230's again !!!!

A year later I realised that my general physical health was still found wanting, fatigueing quickly,slow recovery etc.
Peter St. Pierre tried to talk me into multi vitamins years ago and I resisted; recently a neighbour urged me a number of times to take multi vitamins, so I decided , "what's to lose"? Couple of weeks later I can say that I have seen a marked improvement physically !!!!!!!! Since I skate three times a week I can see the difference !!!!!

Pharmacist recommended the over age 50 batch, since I am now 85, that's for me.

Having done well in world rankings, I am being persuaded to compete in the World Masters Meet in Riccione Italy. WHO ??? ME ???

Club executives and others are for pushing it, BUT, this small fish feels like he is being fed to the sharks !!!!!!

Previously I just went and did my thing, no great expectations. Now just thinking about it exerts pressure; which I felt at recent indoor meets at York "U ".

Overcoming that will be my biggest hurdle, regardless how well I do or do not do.

Participated in three indoor meets at the U of T.

Set three records in the Shot Put event and one in the Weight Throw, in the first meet.

Joke was on me, for I couldn't better the results in the next two meets.

Outdoor meets with the Throwers Club will be in two and a half months. May 26.

Arriving at the meet On Feb 25 I saw both the new and old 12 lb weight.

Tried the new one with little success, then tried the old one, but now they had removed the material around the handle and I could easily get my hand in !!!! The weight flew over 13 meters. Everyone new about the fuss I had raised and now the new one was there, so there was a loud hew and cry that I try the new one again, which I did, it too went over thirteen meters, to much applause.

The old one set the record, it now stands at 13:55 M.
Perhaps because of an additional swinging c ircle.

There is a bit of stiffness created by a collar below the handle which will be corrected.

Prior to a Mini Meet at York "U" I did a few weight throws, outdoors, in windy freezing temperatures, to 14 meters. At the meet I just go over 11 M.

I lodged a complaint about the implement--barely got my hand into the handle--so heavily taped. Inside-- to make up the required weight--- was a bag of small nuts and bolts making the implement lobsided.

Response from CMAA powers that be was " We shall withdraw the implement and you will have nothing to throw !!!!!!!!

Throwers Club executives objected to that, now the powers that be will consider purchasing a new one if they can afford it !!!!!

In the Throwers Club alone,we have about twenty members, membership fee per person equals forty dollars. For the club that makes $40 times 20, or $800.00 per annum to CMAA multiply that by a number of years and tell me they cannot afford 200.00 !!!!!

WHERE GOETH THE MONEY !!!!!!!!!!!

It is encumbent upon them to supply adequate equipment and implements for their meets.

CATARACT !!!!!!!!!!

And I don't mean waterfalls !!!! Month ago I had the cataracts removed from my eyes, it opened up a new world !!!!! Don't need to throw out my TV, it is perfect !!!! Wasn't before. Night driving---I will do it now !!!! I shied away from it before. White now looks white--- before it looked creamy !!!!! Vision has improved, left eye 20, right eye 25. Still will need glasses for reading.

NOW IF THEY COULD ONLY DO THAT TO OTHER AGING PARTS !!!!!!!!!!
Guess it won't improve my throwing. but I won't complain !!!!!!

It would be remiss of me not to mention the Throwers Club and website.
www.throwersclub.ca compiled by Bill Pearson., containing our club's history, meet results,Canadian records, photo album and links to relative world sites.

We operate out of Stouffville, Ontario, Canada, holding five meets annually. With them I have developed a lot, with one world record and a number of Canadian records.

I do it my way but being in a group I get their advice and partake of some of their better techniques.

GARRY'S ANNUAL SPORTS REPORT

Greetings,

This year I completed the 80 to 84 years age group and did well.

This year I set two indoor records in the Weight Throw and at least two outdoor records.
Most satisfying was in the Shot Put; early in the year I set a record, in the second last meet I was 1 cm. short, in the last meet I beat it by 1 cm.
The satisfying part was that it was in the last meet in this age group, the last meet of the year and my last throw in the Shot Put event.

My plans for next year in the 85--89 years age group, is to compete in the Weight Pentathlon in the 1st and perhaps in the 2nd meet, depending on how well I do, and then in succeeding meets enter in only two single events, ie--Shot Put and discus, the following meet the Hammer and Weight Throw, etc. The idea is that, in single events one gets six throws compared to only three in the pentathlon, creating more opportunity to do ones best.

Object of this site is to receive and display Track and Field Throwers comments on interesting events that, they have seen or heard of, or experienced, that may be of interest to others regarding weight throwing.

Par example:-

My turn to throw the discus, got the all clear, upon throwing I saw a person that had come out from a line of trees and walking near the right vector tape. The discus hit him on the nape of the neck, glancing off his skull, flooring him !!!!!!!!!!!! Not fatal !!!! Must have given him a headache !!!!!
